Lava-Nature's Looking Glass
Hawaii
Volcanoes National Park was our last tour. It seemed we had come to a magical place that
reflected all the beauty of the island. We stood in awe of the devastation and power of
creation. Mother Earth's workshop if you will; and lava her medium. A wondrous place
for whimsical dreaming...of mythical dragons that seemed to lie amid the rubble. ... and
of quiet reflection on life and beauty... death and rebirth.

Long
ridges like these appeared to be the scaly backbones of a sleeping dragons...
...or
skeletons of dinosaurs that met a fiery end.
Deep
purple, red and orange are easily seen in this striated lava. Yet at closer
inspection, iridescent hues of every color are visible.
Rope
like pahoehoe resemble the roots of the banyan tree and of so many plants we saw on the
island.
This
lava revels a pattern like the backs of sea turtles and of sun kissed water.
Like
puzzle pieces waiting to be pushed together, this pahoehoe reminded us of the infinite
number of ocean waves.
