Services Offered by the Mitchell County Health Department
Lab Tests.......Hemoglobin tests, cholesterol tests, lipid panels, urinalysis, blood sugars, strep screens.
Health Starts.......Specially trained person (grandmotherly type) makes home and hospital visits to pregnant women, mothers and newborn infants for emotional support and education.
Health Education.......Babysitting Safety Course, Group Talks, Individual Teaching, Pamplets, Films.
Safety.......Infant, Toddler, Car and Booster Seat Rental Program. Kansas law requires all children under 14 be safely restrained in the front or back seat of a vehicle.
Family Planning.......You do not have to need birth control methods to use Family Planning. Women's health assessments, pap tests, pregnancy tests. Birth control methods available.
Home Health.......The North Central Kansas Home Health Agency is administered by the Mitchell County Health Department. Home Health services are available 24 hours a day, as medically necessary.
Child Care Licensing.......Licensing and registration for family child care homes, nursery schools, and day care centers. Contact us for a list of available babysitters.
Nursing Clinics.......Industrial sites and employment groups may request our services for blood pressure screening, hemoglobin tests, hearing tests, vision tests, urinalysis, blood sugars, cholesterol screening, lipid panels, immunizations, or education. Regual clinics are held in various locations thoughout the county.
Developmental Testing.......Children under age 6 are changing and growing. We can give you an idea whether your child is developing in a normal pattern with the Denver II testing tool.
Immunizations.......All required childhood immunications, tetanus/diphtheria.
Allergy, Prescribed Injections.......You obtain the prescription; we'll give the injections as directed by your physician.
Kansas Services for Children with Special Health Care Needs.......Diagnostic
services are available, without regard to family income, to all Kansas youth under age 21,
who are suspected of having a severe handicap, disability, or chronic
disease. Many conditions are eligible for treatment. Contact us for
information before you see a physician.
Nothing is paid for without prior approval.
Office Visits.......Office hours are 8:30-12 and 1-5 p.m. It is best to call
before coming.
Toenail Trimming.......Please call for an appointment.
Ear Piercing.......Our charges include the cost of earrings.
Communicable Disease Control & Follow-up.......VD, TB, Hepatitis and all
reportable diseases. TB medications provided without cost.
Referrals.......Referrals to agencies who may be able to assist you, if we can't.
Vision Testing.......Depth perception, color blindness, near and far visual acuity.
Physicals.......Well child assessments; health assessments for pre-school programs;
Vocational Technical College; babysitters, and Kan-B-Healthy for Title XIX program.
Hearing Tests.......No physician order needed. Audiometric testing, thresholds,
and tympanograms.
Women, Infant, Children (WIC).......Supplemental food and education program set up by
the Department of Agriculture. Provides food packages and education to pregnant
women, post partum women and children 0 to 5 years of age.
Maternal and Infant (MI).......Provides social services support, education and health
and development monitoring for pregnant women and infants to age one.
Newborn Home Visits....... Registered nurse makes home visits to Title XIX participants to do newborn and immediate post partum maternal assessments.

Methods of Payment
include Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance, Private Pay, Aging Grant and Senior Care Act.No one is denied services for inability to pay. Certain criteria must often be met to qualify for coverage. Our Nurse Coordinator will assist you in determining eligibility for insurance reimbursement or information for private pay services.
